Five years ago today, my younger self decided to dip my toe into the wedding photography scene.
Before I get more into that though, let’s go back further to why I even considered this crazy idea of being part of the wedding industry. As you all know there’s no retakes, one shot to get those perfect moments captured (no pressure).
I remember one day aimlessly scrolling through facebook (as you do) and I saw some Wedding pictures. As I was already a keen photographer, these images immediately stood out to me. The bride looked amazing, the venue was beautiful, the way the colours popped in the images took my breath away. I think this was the first time I had actually noticed wedding photography before.
From this point I new I wanted to capture those sort of images and be able to create those memories for other people. But, how do I just go out and get these images?
Two years past and I still had not had the opportunity to venture into weddings, until I crossed paths with this crazy but super friendly person called Caroline. Caroline had happened to just set up her own business Carolines Occasions selling wedding dresses to hopeful brides to be. After we got chatting and found out what each other did – a photoshoot session soon happened next! I wanted to grab images for my portfolio, Caroline wanted images for her website – it was a win for both of us.
What Happened Next?
From this I was recommended to a Bride who wanted some pictures taking with a low budget for her Wedding! This was when I met Heidi and Richard – I couldn’t have been luckier for my first clients, they where both so friendly and relaxed, the whole planning process was such fun and easy. I explained my situation and made sure expectations where clear in terms of this been my first Wedding. The date was penciled into the diary!
Save The Date
It’s a date I can’t forget, I was told it was over the easter bank Holiday weekend, assuming this was in April, however the year 2016 Easter fell in the month of March – which only happens every couple of years.
The big day arrives, me being a bit nervous, dragged my partner along – for moral support of course … and maybe to hold my camera bag. The whole day was such fun, Heidi was full of energy and made all the images come to life, Richard was a more relaxed and calmer – So a nice balance really. I managed to capture all the images I had hoped for throughout the day plus much more.
I still look back at these images in disbelief that this was my first Wedding as its still one of my favourite Weddings 6 years on! Guys if you ever want to renew your vows give me a shout!
Here’s to another 5 years and many more happy couples.
